St. Helena's Fall Bazaar

St. Helena’s annual Fall Bazaar is on Saturday, November 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  A Bazaar Preview will be held on Friday evening, Nov. 5, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Nothing will be sold on Friday (although Silent Auction bids will be accepted).  The Preview is for fellowship and an early look at bazaar offerings.

Again this year the bazaar will star St. Helena’s famous “church mice,” handmade by Women of the Parish members and featuring another new type of mouse this year.  Bazaar shoppers will also find baked goods, candy, frozen foods, books, crafts and gifts, jewelry, plants, Christmas decorations, a pet boutique, silent auction and Bargain Box.  Bazaar proceeds benefit charities in Beaufort and around the world.

The bazaar is at the Parish House, 507 Newcastle St. in downtown Beaufort.  Contact Bazaar Chairman Annie Pollak at 843-538-6497 or the church at 843-522-1712 for more information. Or visit

Charleston Bible Society Festival

The Charleston Bible Society will continue to celebrate its first 200 years with a Fall Festival on Sunday, November 7th, starting at 2:30 in the afternoon with a service at First (Scots) Presbyterian Church, the Rev. Dr. Danny Massie officiating.

Our interdenominational society distributes Bibles and encourages the reading of the Word. The primary focus is local. Our distinguished founders include Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, a signer of the United States Constitution and Richard Dehon, Rector of St. Michael’s and Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, who married the daughter of another founder Nathaniel Russell.

The reception following the service at First (Scots) includes a ceremony at First Baptist Cemetery honoring founder Richard Furman, for whom Furman University was named.

Food, beverages and singing by the Society of the Preservation of Spirituals will be provided at the piazza and garden of another founder, Timothy Ford at 54 Meeting Street, right across from First Scots and the Nathaniel Russell house. Guests are welcome to visit the garden of the Russell House on the way to the reception.

Tickets are $10 a person, check or cash only. They are available at Saints Alive Christian Book & Gift Store (73 Broad Street) or at the door.

Missionary Care Training

Missionary Care and Training Sponsored by St. Luke’s, Hilton Head Island and Global Teams Missionary Organization

Has God ever tweaked your heart as you have read the newsletters from our missionaries?
Have you ever wondered what you could do to further His Kingdom?
Have you ever wished you could do more to support your missionaries?
Do you have a heart for missions but don’t know how God could use you?

If your answer is “yes” to any of these questions, I would like you to prayerfully consider joining us on Hilton Head Island, the first Friday and Saturday in December, the 3rd and 4th, to learn about a way that God can use you to further His kingdom, and to ease the tweaking of your heart!

This will be an introduction to Missionary Care and will include training in how you can learn more about Global Teams and how to take better care of missionaries with whom your church partners.
We will start at 4:30 PM on Friday the 3rd of December, work until 10:00 PM. Start again at 8:30 AM on Saturday morning, the 4th of December and we will finish up about 5:00 PM. All meals will be provided as will housing. Donations will be accepted for the cost of the meals. The training will take place at St. Luke’s Church, 50 Pope Avenue, Hilton Head Island, SC 29928. Some, who live within a few hours distance, might like to go home after we finish up on Saturday afternoon, or you are welcome to join us for worship at St. Luke’s.

Global Teams (GT) began as Episcopal World Mission and has been around since 1983, the year 2000, marked a major turning point in the way the leaders understood their particular calling as a movement. GT became increasingly multi-denominational and also increasingly multi-national as more and more believers from Africa, Latin America, and Asia joined GT as missionaries.

In addition, as Global Teams embraced the truth that God has left His fingerprints in every culture, their style of evangelism and church planting was transformed. Instead of transplanting their own cultural or denominational forms of Christianity, now GT began to expect God to work among the nations in new ways. They see His Church, His Body emerging in forms and expressions that fit the culture of the people and enable the Gospel to flow and spread like yeast in the dough.

Using the concept of International Mobilization, Global Teams sends missionaries from nations all over the world, equipping them to be used by God to birth new movements to Jesus among peoples and cultures least familiar with the Gospel. Like most mission organizations, these are referred to as unreached people groups.

For more information on the training or on Global Teams, please either call or email me, the Rev. Kathie Phillips at: or 843-785-4099, or go to GT's web site: .

For more information, please call or e-mail: or 843-785-4099.
