The Rev. Dr. Grant LeMarquand to Serve as Suffragan Bishop for the Horn of Africa PDF Print E-mail

A Message from the Bishop of South Carolina

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Greetings in the strong name of Jesus Christ who calls us each to mission for his Kingdom and his Church.

I trust that you know that one of dioceses we have entered into a mutually enriching missional relationship with is the Diocese of Egypt, North Africa and the Horn of Africa.  Therefore when I read recently that the Reverend Dr. Grant LeMarquand, a professor at Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, Pennsylvania, was chosen as a Suffragan Bishop to the Most Reverend Mouneer Anis I was delighted.  Grant is a priest of the Anglican Church of Canada who has been teaching New Testament here in the United States but he has also had extensive experience in mission as well.  Now his new duty will be the Suffragan Bishop of the Horn of Africa.  He will be doing a wide array of ministry in this position.  He needs to raise his own stipend and support.  I must say I was quite delighted when I read of the appointment--even though I had a hint of it sometime in advance.

To that end he will be visiting our diocese from March 8--19th and will be our preacher at the opening Eucharist on Friday evening.  Fr. Greg Snyder has booked his schedule and already it looks to be quite full. (View schedule.) Nevertheless, any time you can spend with him to hear more specifically about his new work (most likely it will need to be during our time at Diocesan Convention), as well as any funds you might be able to encourage the missions or outreach committees of your parish to pledge to this important calling he has accepted will be greatly appreciated.  I am also certain he would love to be assured of your prayers.   I believe this is one further way that we in the Diocese of South Carolina can continue to fulfill our vision of Making Biblical Anglicans for a Global Age.

How we can help:

The LeMarquands have set up a missions support fund with SAMS (Society of Anglican Missionaries and Senders).  You can visit their website, www.samsusa.org  for additional information on how to donate, whether it be a one-time gift, or a monthly gift. If you would prefer, you can send a check directly to:

If your parish would like to explore partnering with the Diocese of Egypt, you can contact Grant directly, at  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

Gratefully yours in Christ,
