Trinity Episcopal Church in Myrtle Beach will host a concert by the University Singers from Ohio Northern University on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 p.m.  The concert is free and open to the public.

The 48-voice select choir is under the direction of Dennis L. Kratzer, Director of Choral Activities and Professor of Music. Ohio Northern University is one of the five Methodist related college/universities in the state of Ohio.  Mark Chaney, Trinity’s Director of Music, is an Ohio Northern alumnus.

This concert is a part of the choir’s annual spring tour in churches and high schools in Ohio, Tennessee, Florida, South Carolina and Georgia. Previous concert tours have included performances in New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, St. Louis, and Los Angeles.  Four years ago the spring tour took the choir overseas to Estonia, and a tour to England, Scotland and Wales is being planned for the winter of 2012.

The spring tour will feature faculty accompanist Mary Jane Eichelberger on organ. Piano accompanist is Adam Fahncke, senior music major from Wapakoneta, OH and Maggie Sant, sophomore pharmacy and music major, will be featured on French Horn.  Associate Conductor is Timothy Smith, senior music education major from Westerville, OH. Brianna Bizzaro, junior music education major from Port Allegany, PA and Eric Smith, senior music performance major from Toledo, OH serve as Assistant Conductors.

Selections to be performed include Basler’s “Songs of Faith,” “Sleep” by Eric Whitacre, “You are the Music” by Forrest, Benjamin Britten’s lively “Jubilate in C,” “The Lord Is My Light” by Ferguson, Z. Randall Stroope’s evocative “Lamentations of Jeremiah,” and Mendelssohn’s great “Verleih uns Frieden.”  The concert will close with spiritual selections including arrangements of “Give Me Jesus,” “City Called Heaven,” and “John the Revelator.”  As a long-standing tradition, the final selection will be John Ness Beck’s “Benediction” which features the seniors of the choir.

Trinity Episcopal Church is located at 3000 N Kings Hwy, and the concert is free and open to the public.  For further information, please contact Mark Chaney at (843) 448-8426.
