Three Candles

The following Advent and Christmas events are open to the public. To add an item to the list email it to:

Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols
St. Helena’s, Beaufort, December 10

The Parish Church of St. Helena will offer a candlelight Festival of Advent Lessons and Carols at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 10.  In this service, which dates to the late 19th century, we listen to seven Scripture lessons which recount the Fall, the promise of a Messiah, the Incarnation, and the Great Commission to preach the Good News. Each lesson is followed by a carol or other song that reflects on the lesson's message and a brief prayer.

Christmas Contata
St. John’s, Johns Island, December 11

St. John’s, Johns Island, will offer a Christmas Cantata and reception Sunday, December 11, 6 pm. This festive musical occasion which begins at 6 pm, will include traditional and contemporary Christmas music including a presentation of ‘O Holy Night’ by Dove Award-winning composer Russell Mauldin. A reception will follow. Admission is free, and all are welcome!

Hayride through James Island County Park
Christ-St. Paul's, Hollywood, December 11

Join with Christ-St. Paul's parish family for this fun outing when we all meet up at Saint James Church, (1872 Camp Road), at 5 pm, then board the wagons and begin our trek through the park. We do stop for a short break to walk around and enjoy the concessions and gift shops.

Vivaldi Gloria & Advent Concert
St. Michael’s, Charleston, December 14 |  6:30 pm

On Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30 p.m. members of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and other local musicians will constitute a chamber orchestra that will accompany St. Michael’s Choir on Vivaldi’s setting of this wonderful text as well as other pieces that highlight the Advent of our Savior. Learn more.

Advent Musical Recitals

Saint James, James Island, December 14, 21

Saint James, James Island, is presenting short, musical recitals on the Wednesday's of Advent at noon. Admission is free. December 14: Alton Cox, voice & Susanne Jeter, organ. December 21: Jill Williams (wife of the Rev. Andrew Williams), soprano. Contact Chris Walchesky for queries.

Holiday, Healing & Hope
St. Johns Chapel, Charleston, December 21

On Wednesday, December 21, from 7 - 8:30 p.m. St. John’s Chapel, Charleston, will host “Holiday, Healing & Hope” a 90-minute prayer and healing service offered by Mrs. Janie D. Wilson, MABC (Peninsula Biblical Counseling Center) and Mrs. Christal Yvette Heyward, MACM, (Gibsong Academy). Even when individuals think they have been “doing well” with the death of, divorce from or a critical illness of a love-one, the holidays can reactivate their grief, as they are forced to acknowledge the extent of their loss. This intercessory prayer event will provide a non-threatening atmosphere in which participants will be free to tell God and their brothers and sisters the truth about their feelings.
