Steering Committee Primates of Global South Recognize Lawrence's Legitimate Episcopal Oversight

The Rt. Rev. Mark J. Lawrence, Bishop of the Diocese of South Carolina, received a letter of support, dated December 14, 2012, from the Steering Committee of the Primates of the Global South of the Anglican Communion. The show of support, signed by The Most Revd Dr. Mouneer Hanna Anis, Primate of Jerusalem and the Middle East; The Most Revd Nicholas Okoh, Primate of All Nigeria; The Most Revd Ian Ernest, Primate of the Indian Ocean; The Most Revd Datuk Bolly Lapok, Primate of South East Asia; The Most Revd Stephen Than Myint Oo, Primate of Myanmar; The Most Revd Dr. Eluid Wabukala, Primate of Kenya and The Most Revd Hector “Tito” Zavala, Primate of the Southern Cone recognizes Bishop Lawrence's Episcopal orders and his legitimate Episcopal oversight of the Diocese of South Carolina within the Anglican Communion. Diocesan Statement Regarding Claimed Renunciation

On Wednesday, December 5th, the Rt. Rev. Mark J. Lawrence, the XIVth Bishop of the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of South Carolina, was informed by the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church that she has interpreted his address to the November 17th Diocesan Convention as a renunciation of ministry. On that basis she has released a "Renunciation of Ordained Ministry and Declaration of Removal and Release" from ordained ministry for Bishop Lawrence. His response to this action, in a statement to his Diocese, follows below.

October 25, 1922 - November 24, 2012 Please keep the family of the Rt. Rev. George Edward Haynsworth, in your prayers. Bishop Haynsworth died on Saturday, November 24, 2012. The service for the Burial of the Dead and Holy Eucharist will be held on Wednesday, November 28, 2012 at 11 a.m. in the Bishop Gadsden Chapel, 1873 Camp Road in Charleston. A reception will follow. After the reception, the committal will be in the graveyard at the Church of the Holy Cross in Stateburg, South Carolina. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 27 from 4 - 6 p.m. at Stuhr's, 232 Calhoun Street, Charleston. In lieu of flowers, the family has designated that memorials be given in the Bishop's honor to the Anglican Communion Development Committee of the Diocese of South Carolina. Checks may be made payable to the Diocese of South Carolina, with "Haynsworth Memorial" in the memo line. They may be mailed to: The Diocese of South Carolina, PO Box 20127, Charleston, SC 29413. Special Convention Approves Canonical and Constitutional Amendments Regarding Disassociation On, Saturday, November 17, 2012, the Protestant Episcopal Church in the Diocese of South Carolina met in Special Convention at the “mother church of the Diocese,” historic St. Philip’s Church in Charleston. There, an overwhelming majority passed three resolutions. (View the Resolutions.)
