Ideally located in downtown Charleston, we are close to houses of worship, shopping, restaurants, cultural venues and outstanding medical facilities. The Canterbury House campus is comprised of two apartment buildings and available to anyone 62 or older, who is able to live independently and meets annual income guidelines. Canterbury House is a very diverse community and adheres to Fair Housing regulations. Our Mission at Canterbury is to provide safe, comfortable and affordable housing while promoting the physical, emotional and spiritual well-being of our residents. Our Goal is to keep our residents healthy and living independently with services that are unique to the Canterbury House.
Supportive services include: a Wellness Program staffed by an RN and Social Worker, on-site physical/occupational therapy, transportation for shopping, an exercise room and program, a full activity calendar, weekly worship services, cafeteria, library, computer lab, thrift store and beauty shop. Canterbury House, also, has a strong affiliation with the Medical University of SC School of Health Professions and provides a clinical teaching site for their students. Security contributes greatly to our residents’ peace of mind – entrances are monitored, all apartments are equipped with 24-hour emergency pull cords, smoke detectors and sprinklers.
One can see by the above programs, services and amenities while residing in quality affordable housing, Canterbury House allows our seniors to “age in place” with dignity and grace.
