Bishop of Bolivia in SC December 5-21 PDF Print E-mail

Bishop Raphael Samuel, Bishop of Bolivia in SC December 5-21

The Right Rev. Raphael Samuel, Bishop of Bolivia, and his wife, Michelle, will be visiting our diocese from December 5 through Dec 21. Bishop Samuel has served in Bolivia for almost 20 years as an Anglican missionary from Singapore, appointed by Archbishop Moses Tay.

+Raphael is presenting his vision for the Diocese of Bolivia, which includes schools and theological training for clergy. He hopes to expand the work of mission in Bolivia, which is in essence a missionary diocese in the Province of South America. The Province of South America has come out of the old Province of the Southern Cone.

Bolivia is a country of great need, both spiritual and financial, and churches are not encouraged by the ruling powers. There is a great need for people to work alongside the churches in the Diocese. The churches of the Diocese are involved in mission, from caring for children from the markets to caring for the children of workers who are absent all week. Some churches try to help homeless and others try to find medical help for those in need.

Unfortunately, in Bolivia, the laborers are few. Bishop Samuel is trying to change that. It is his vision for the Diocese of Bolivia, its people and its churches, that Bishop Samuel will be presenting to the churches in our Diocese.

Bishop Samuel will be in the Florence Deanery from the December 5-9. He will preach at Holy Comforter in Sumter on December 7, and will speak at an evening meeting at St. John’s, Florence, on December 8. Everyone who has an interest in missions is invited to one of the sessions. December 10-11, he will be speaking in the Pawley’s Island/Myrtle Beach area. On Saturday, December 13 he will be going to Charleston and speaking at St. John’s, John’s Island on both Saturday and Sunday. His last scheduled meeting, at this time, is on Monday, with Bishop Lawrence and others..

If you are interested in having Bishop Samuel as a speaker or preacher, please contact either Fr. Jim Blanton, at 803-487-6770, ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) or Fr. Bob Lawrence at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it , or(843) 768-0429.

Bishop Samuel and Michelle are here as guests of the Diocese of South Carolina and Adelante Bolivia, Inc. Adelante Bolivia is a 501c3 corporation founded in 2012 by missionaries who have a heart for Bolivia. Fr. Blanton, Fr. Marcus Kaiser, Bishop Samuel, and Bishop Frank Lyons serve as the current Board of Directors. All funds go directly to missions in the Diocese of Bolivia.
