Praise and Glory
By Betty Schaffer, 2017 Praise and Glory Coordinator, Diocesan Church WomenAs women in the Diocese of South Carolina, our mission is “to live with hearts of thankfulness and to practice generosity for the praise and glory of God.” Every woman in our diocese is encouraged to join in this ministry through daily offerings of praise and thanksgiving for the blessings our Lord has bestowed upon us.
The Archbishop Benjamin and Dr. Gloria Kwashi of Nigeria have had a long-standing relationship with our diocese; therefore, we are pleased to announce that the focus of the 2017-2018 Praise and Glory offerings will go to Gloria’s Safe Haven project. Dr. Gloria has a passion for children and their safety. She and Bishop Kwashi have adopted over 300 children, currently have 50 children with them who bear their name, and they have six children of their own. She has overcome being born in a ditch and savagely beaten and raped by men who were sent to murder her husband; still, she loves the Lord and praises Him for being her source of strength. Gloria had a vision for a school on a particular piece of land. Several parcels became available, but each time, Gloria refused because it was not the land that the Lord had shown her in a dream. Finally, she was offered land, but refused to accept it until she had seen it. This piece of land was indeed the land in her dream. Stage one-to secure the land and Stage 2-to develop plans for the building have been completed. Stage 3-to raise funds for a building that will offer a safe environment for girls seeking an education is currently underway. Imagine if these girls were your daughters or granddaughters how urgent this need would be. Funds collected for Praise and Glory for the year 2017-2018 will benefit Gloria’s efforts to provide a “Safe Haven” for girls in Nigeria seeking an education, but are afraid to stay in homes where they would be raped or used as sex slaves. Our hope is that Gloria’s ministry will benefit immensely and be blessed mightily by your contributions.
