grandfatheringConference to focus on how grandparents can help influence the spiritual formation of the next generation

CHARLESTON, SC February 25, 2016 – Cavin Harper, founder and director of the Colorado Springs, CO, based Christian Grandparenting Network, will kick off a 10-day tour in South Carolina leading events on Biblical Grandparenting with a mini-conference on Biblical Grandparenting: Does Our Legacy Matter? Friday, March 11 at the Cross Schools Campus in Bluffton.  Cost is $10 per person and begins at 9 a.m.

The  grandparenting conference is one of the events hosted by the Diocese of South Carolina as part of its 225th Annual Diocesan Convention. The Diocese is also offering a series of free workshops, all open to the public.  Registration for the conference, the free workshops and the grandparenting workshop can be done here.

“After laboring for 18 years through the Christian Grandparenting Network, I am seeing pastors and church leaders awaken to a much overlooked segment of our congregations who could be equipped and empowered to greatly influence the spiritual formation of the next generations,” said Harper. “That overlooked demographic is grandparents.

“Why is this important? Because grandparents are second only to parents with the power to influence the children in our families. It is also important because too many of our young people are leaving the church.  That is partly due to the lack of intentionality by parents and grandparents to train and disciple the next generations. We have not done a good job of doing life together, both in the family and in the Church.”

Harper believes that many grandparents today have little understanding of what a grandparents’ role should be.  In this seminar he will discuss why grandparenting is important; the private pains of grandparenting; and three powerful tools for intentional grandparenting.

Harper will be speaking at numerous churches throughout South Carolina in March. In addition to the events in Beaufort, he has engagements in Hilton Head, Sumter,  James Island, Summerville, Mt. Pleasant and Orangeburg.

On March 19 he will be leading a day-long conference on Courageous Grandparenting at the Church of the Redeemer, Orangeburg. SC
