While we are grateful to God that the majority of our Diocese has come through the recent catastrophic storm unscathed, a few of our parishes and people suffered significant damage that will not be adequately covered by insurance. It is also a reality that additional flooding is expected and the recovery process will continue for some time. That there will be unmet needs is certain.
For those reasons, the Diocesan office is recommending the following possible responses to this disaster:
1. For those wishing to support recovery in those diocesan congregations needing assistance, please make a designated gift on the Diocesan website for “disaster assistance.” Contribute as "guest."
2. The Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) is the disaster relief organization for our part of the Anglican Communion. ARDF is now accepting donations specifically for use in relief efforts in South Carolina. To make a donation, you may do so here.
3. Finally, among the many good options for relief work completely outside our church family, we would commend Water Missions International, who is providing several water treatment units for the hard hit Columbia area.
Please continue to keep all those affected by this storm in your prayers. The recovery from a disaster of this scope will take time. As it happens, may we by God’s grace be a blessing to those more severely impacted than ourselves.
