Tree Church 5K Run/Walk (Sat. 5 Mar, 2016 8:00 am - 9:00 am) Christ Church, Mt. Pleasant is holding its 3rd Annual Tree Church Project 5K Run / Walk at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, March 5, 2016 at Charleston County’s new Laurel Hill Park in Mount Pleasant. All proceeds from the 5K are used to build church buildings in the Diocese of Marsabit in the Anglican Church of Kenya. This area is predominantly Muslim and as the Church has grown, these first generation Christians only have trees or outcroppings of rocks under which to worship. In 2014 Christ Church constructed a church building for the Samburu people in the Game Community of Marsabit. This community used to worship under an Acacia tree which was in danger of being washed away by a seasonal river. In 2015, a church was built for the Boran people in the Elebor community, which had used an outcropping of a rock under which to hold their church services. This year the proceeds from the 5K will build a permanent Church for the Gabra people of Maikona in the Marsabit diocese of Northern Kenya. The Tree Church 5K Trail Run/Walk is being held at Charleston County’s new Laurel Hill Park in Mount Pleasant on Saturday morning, March 5, 2016. Registration is only $25 and $15 for accompanying children; sponsorship levels begin at only $300. Prizes for overall and age group winners. Register at http://goraceproductions.com/races/2016-tree-church-5k/ Call Robin Quick at Christ Church at 843-884-9189 for more information.
