St. Paul's, Summerville, Welcomes Jeffords as New Rector

The congregation of St. Paul’s Church, Summerville, will have its first opportunity to meet and welcome its new rector on Aug. 16. The Rev. Julian Thomas “Tripp” Jeffords III, will preach at the 8, 9, and 11 a.m. services.

The church is adjusting its schedule of services so everyone in the congregation will have an opportunity to hear the new senior pastor preach.

“I’m excited about this fresh new start,” said Jeffords, 48, a South Carolina native who received his bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina, his master’s in divinity from Duke University Divinity School and an Anglican Studies Diploma from Virginia Theological School.

The new rector looks forward to helping St. Paul’s, Summerville, press on toward a future that is “biblically-centered, Christ-centered and Holy Spirit driven.”

Bridge Church Trailer Stolen

On Saturday, July 18, 2015 when volunteers for the Bridge Church (an outreach of the Cathedral) went to pick up the trailer of equipment for their weekly worship service for the city's homeless and East Central community they discovered the trailer and all of its contents had been stolen.
With only 45 minutes before the service was to start, the group was undeterred.

“We didn’t have a table to serve the meals on, chairs to sit on, a sound system to project the preacher and worship leader’s voices over the traffic noise,” said Tom Hample, one of Bridge Church’s founders, “but we just improvised and the meal and service went on as scheduled. It was one of our best services ever. Praise God.”

Diocese Affirms Biblical Position on Holy Matrimony

On June 26, 2015, the Supreme Court of the United States ruled that "all states must license marriage between two people of the same sex" and "recognize a marriage between two people of the same sex when their marriage was lawfully licensed and performed out-of-state."  Despite this change, the Diocese of South Carolina continues to affirm the historic position of the Christian Church: that God has ordained two states of life for His people, singleness or Holy Matrimony – the joining together of one man and one woman into a holy union. By affirming this position, we stand firmly under the authority of Holy Scripture, in continuity with the two thousand year history of the church, and in accord with the vast majority of Christians around the world. Therefore, it is clear that while the Supreme Court may be changing the civil definition of marriage, it has no authority over Holy Matrimony and the Church’s blessing of the union between husband and wife.

To the Faithful across the Carolinas:

Greetings to you in the matchless Name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  

As the eyes of the nation turn toward Charleston we commend her to your prayers.  Our hearts are crushed by this violent act.  Our minds reel as we consider the pain of our brothers and sisters who have lost loved ones—mothers and fathers, children and grandchildren, family and friends—as well as for those who have lost faith and hope from such a senseless act of hatred and insanity.  Among those killed was one from our own Anglican family, Myra Thompson, the wife of The Rev’d Anthony Thompson, a priest in the Reformed Episcopal Church.
